Turbo Legacy Project (future Hill Climb car??)
Picked up a 1993 Subaru Legacy Sport Sedan the other day for a pretty decent price. It needs some work here and there, but overall is pretty nice. Nice thing about it, is that it only has 130,000 miles and is a 5 speed. In order to drive it home easier- I had to silicone a leaking bypass vavlve hose that was not letting it build boost without cutting out. (Pulling in un-metered air) I noticed this when looking at it, figured this or something else similiar to this was keeping it from running properly. The guy I bought it from was very straight up about what it needed, which was very nice considering the last SS I looked at was a total pile of dog crap at a hole in the wall crap dealer in Denver. I started working (and modding :D ) it the day after I bought it! Plan is for a daily driver... something fun to drive to keep me from driving the WRX as much!
Mods so far:
- TD04 from a WRX
- Helix Downpipe (Bellmouth 3") - modified
- Custom built 3" Exhaust (custom built 3" muffler)
- Custom Built turbo forward Intake (now a cold air, filter in fender setup)
- Custom built cone filter adapter
- 06 WRX Intercooler (cut down clutch cylinder resavoir, modified y-pipe)
- Custom Built IC BOV adapter
- Turbo XS BPV (VTA currently- no issues so far)
- 1 way check valve / MBC mod to raise fuel cut a few PSI (still allows MAP to see vac/boost)
- Greddy Full Auto Timer
- Springed the wastegate out to about 15psi (about 12psi sea level - pushing the limit of the stock MAF/injectors)
- Custom Short Shifter, custom rear bushings for shift linkage
- Kartboy Upgraded front shifter linkage bushings
Have a TD04 on the way ;)
Update: It's in!
Car has a few other little odd's and ends.... One thing I have spent A LOT of time on was fixing some structural stuff up front that got hit. The lower cross bracing where the radiator sits got hit by something down low. It had a new radiator but was sitting up to high holding the hood up slightly. I cut out all that bracing and welded in new square turbing to replace it. I drilled holes to allow the radiator to sit in the tubing like the factory mounts.. I also had to replace the upper radiator / hood latch support bar because it was bent up. And make a new bracket to hold the radiator. While I was at it, I took out the grill, cut it out so it's open, painted it and re-attached it with some custom mounts because the factory clips were not a happening thing anymore.. Re-shimmed the headlights to match the grill, hood, and bumper again and called it a day. Looks much better, and the hood shuts all the way!

TD04 Setup

Since buying the other Legacy, I have decided to turno this into a Rally X project car. The Interior is totally gutted except for the front seats, front carpet, and dash (no radio, glove box etc.). The sun roof alone had to weight 75 pounds. Getting rid of this weight has made a noticable difference in acceleration and handling... the car snaps in better and exits harder. I need some decent tires and it will be ready to try at a Rally cross event.
Video with some footage of the Legacy and me sliding some corners and what not...
