2006 Duramax 4x4 LBZ / 6 speed Allison

I have been looking to buy a diesel for a couple months... was planning on buying a Cummins / 6 speed manual truck. I was having trouble finding this combo in 4 wheel drive with a quad cab. I ran across a great year, 100% stock (06 - 360hp / 650ft tq LBZ 6 speed Allison) Duramax at a good price and couldn't pass it up!

Didn't have it very long before the modding started ;-) So far this is what I have done to the truck:

  • Trans Go Jr. performance shift kit for the Allison
  • 4" Custom Exhaust / single 5" Black MBRP stack (no muffler)
  • Self tuned with HP Tuners (approx 100rwhp high rev / low tq increase tune... trans and TC tweaking)
  • Homebuilt 3.5" Downpipe
  • Homebuilt Intercooler pipes (both sides, EGR delete, Grid delete, 3" hot side)
  • Homebuilt CAI (breathes through back of hood) super short 5" piping, custom MAF flange, 5"-4" Cobra inlet, aFe dry filter, heat shield
  • Holley HP150 lift pump w/ Summit 100micron pre-filter
  • BD Fuel filter setup ~ 2 micron (factory filter/housing/wif sensor delete)
  • Coolingmist 250psi pump powered self built water Injection setup (1 nozzle before IC, 1 high atomization nozzle after)
  • Black Moto Metal 951's (16x8)
  • Herculiner on bumper and both sides of the truck (from body line down)
  • Edge Evo  w/ EGT (only using for gauges)
  • Autometer Ultra light oil temp
  • Autometer Ultra light (carbon fiber) EGT
  • ISSpro blue 30psi Boost Gauge
  • ISSpro blue 60psi Drive Pressure gauge
  • PPE Stainless Tie Rod Sleeves
  • Homebuilt Traction bars
  • Removed Hangers / moified them (for 1" drop and Pinion adjustment)
  • Extended shackles 7" to drop back 3.5"
  • Removed Overload springs to drop another 1/2" or so
  • Removed key perches and built my own setup to lower front to match back
  • EFX Roll Pan - Herculined
  • VVME HID light kits for low beams / foglights
  • Blacked out grill / emblems
  • PCV mod (vent to atmosphere)
  • Switched to 5w30 Mobile1 synthetic in the T-Case
  • Harman/Kardon Drive + Play
  • Garmin Nuvi 765t (widescreen, traffic, etc.)
  • Cobra CB / short ant.
  • Uniroyal LT265/75/16's (sad when that's larger than the stock tires)
  • AMSOIL synthetic engine oil / AMSOIL Torque-Drive Trans fluid / Mobile1 Synthetic diff fluids / AMSOIL diesel lubrication additive

 UPDATES:

*1.19.12: Bought a almost new ATS Co-Pilot for my 6 speed. This will raise line pressure and hopefully help the trans stay alive. Also ordered an Ultra-Gauge... going to see if this thing is worth a darn.

*4.9.11: Went to the track again today. Still had traction problems and couldn't leave above 6psi in 4x4 without blowing them off. Ran a 13.3 @ 100mph on my second pass and called it good. Still nervous about letting it shift to 5th so I just ran 4th out to 4000rpms.

*3.6.11: Made a quick video doing a 10psi launch up to 90mph in-cab. Click here to watch it...

*3.2.11: Installed VVME HID kits for the low beams and foglights. Also grabbed some diodes and did the "all-on" and foglight mods as well. I went with the 8000k bulbs and it has a nice bright blu-ish tint. Looks great, very bright. The kits were pretty nice, especially for the money!

*2.11.11: Bought a Coolingmist 250psi pump to upgrade my water injection setup. Also bought one of their new high atomization nozzles.

*2.5.11: Installed an ISSpro 60psi gauge to monitor drive pressure. Found out my DP was extremely high especially from 3400-3900rpms. Started working with vane position and found out that I was able to run a lot lower vane position, which resulted in better DP and only a tiny loss of boost. Truck pulls slightly harder in the higher rpms and egt's are a touch lower as well. This gauge has proved to be very important.

*10.31.10: Took the truck to PMP for the last race of the year. Couldn't get any traction in 4 wheel drive, left spinning and had to let out. I also had to let out completely to shift to 5th to avoid slipping the trans (or taking the risk of it slipping anyway). This hurt my MPH badly. Ran a 13.6 @ 98mph. w/ traction the truck had the power for a low 13 at 100ish but not worth destroying the transmission.
